FB Alpha is a multi-arcade emulator created as a fork of the well-known FinalBurn, the emulator created in 2000 that was a pioneer in smoothly emulating the Capcom CPS-2 boards on computers of the time. Over the years, the project has added new platforms to become one of the foundations of modern emulation.
This version offers a user-friendly interface for Windows where you can comfortably manage your ROM collection. The list of compatible boards is huge: Capcom CPS-1, CPS-2 and CPS-3, Cave, Data East DEC-0, DEC-8 and DECO IC16, Galaxian based hardware, Irem M62, M63, M72, M90, M92 and M107 hardware, Kaneko 16, Konami, Neo-Geo, NMK16, Pac-Man based hardware, PGM, Psikyo 68EC020 SH-2 based hardware, Sega System 1, System 16 (and similar), System 18, X-Board and Y-Board, Super Kaneko Nova System, Toaplan 1 and 2, Taito F2, X, Z and others.
As for customization options, the emulator offers several types of post-processing filters to simulate CRT monitors, as well as many other parameters such as adapting the resolution and aspect ratio to your needs, disabling vertical synchronization, forcing the refresh rate or applying the now archaic bilinear filters.
FB Alpha for Windows has been discontinued, although it is fully functional and, in certain cases, one of the best options to emulate certain platforms, even ahead of the relatively inaccessible MAME. In addition, this emulator has served as the base for the development of other forks. Without being taken any further, the FinalBurn Neo project is used in APIs such as Libreto, by all kinds of emulators for consoles, micro-computers such as Raspberry-Pi and other platforms suitable for emulating retro games.
